The best list of books you NEED to read in 2023

You have found the answer my dear reader, best books to read in 2023.

The best list of books you NEED to read in 2023

Change is the new,
improved
word for god,
lovely enough
to raise a song
or implicate
a sea of wrongs,
mighty enough,
like other gods,
to shelter,
bring together,
and estrange us.
Please, god,
we seem to say,
change us.

WENDY VIDELOCK

It’s hard when you realize that in order to do the ‘which book character are you’ quizzes you have to read first.

I know, we’ve all been there but you have to accept reality, find a nice comfy chair and relax with a hot tea. Hard work I know.

We started this new year yesterday and it is already February. It’s gone by so fast that I haven’t even had time to make my personal list of books to ABSOLUTELY read this year.

But now we’ll make up for it.

All of us readers have books that we have wanted to read for a long time but for one reason or another remain out of our reading. So, this year we are going to put a stop to this injustice.

In this article I will list some books that in my opinion must be read at least once in a lifetime and others that simply intrigue me.

Books in my opinion are not just a hobby. They are a chance to grow and become the best version of ourselves.

That is why you will find books among my list that serve this purpose. (I am also referring to fiction, which helps us develop our creativity and imagination).

You will find:

Every year many of us tell ourselves that we will change our lives.

But it is easier said than done. That is why I would say we should do something in our own small way.

If you want to start on a path, you have to take the first steps. So inform ourselves, understand what we like and improve ourselves.

My list of the best books to read in 2023 will help you do just that.

The best books for self-improvement

Reading and listening to videos are my two favourite ways to learn something new about myself. I use them as a kind of Shadow work (if you don’t know what that is or how to do it go here). If you do the same or want to get started this reading list is great for you.

I admit that the two categories ‘B.B. for self-improvement’ and ‘B.B. for mindset’ got mixed up a bit during the writing of the article. But anyway, the important thing here is just the list of the best books to read in 2023.

My year of rest and relaxation by ottessa moshfegh

(here I talk about the plot)

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

The Familiars: A Novel by Stacey Halls

To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee

The best books for getting rich

No book that Amazon brings you will come with a million euros/dollars (unless you are very lucky) and that’s about it.

But still, words have a very high value when you know how to use them.

Words can destroy or revive entire civilisations, and in the small day-to-day, they have the power to help us improve our lives.

These books that I am looking forward to reading in 2023 serve this purpose. They tell you what many in everyday life ignore and are an excellent source of information.

Of course, this list contains books I have yet to read, so I cannot tell you for sure whether the recommendations given are good ones.

Always use your personal judgement in these cases.

I can tell you, however, that many millionaires have given positive reviews and some have gone so far as to say that their success is also due to reading these books.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Zero to One by Blake Masters and Peter Thiel

Business Adventures: Twelve Classic Tales from the World of Wall Street

The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel Clason

Best books for knowledge

As you may have noticed, I like to learn about new things.

The first one on the list I’ve wanted to read for a long time but there always seems to be something stopping me.

So in 2023 I want to stop procrastinating and finally read it. If you love astronomy like me you will certainly have read it.

The other two are very important from a cultural point of view and as much as I have studied them, I want to enjoy them from a less critical point of view this year.

The Theory of Everything by Stephen Hawking

Lord of the flies by William Golding

HOMER: The Iliad & The Odyssey

The best books for mindset

Our mentality is one of the most important things in life.

If you do not take care of it by nourishing it with positive and stimulating elements, you risk slipping easily into the less pleasant situations that many often encounter on their path.

The greatest gift you can give the world is to understand others and especially yourself.

These books have great reviews around the web so I don’t want to miss checking them out.

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk

The bell jar by Sylvia Plath

Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?

It didn’t start with you

The things I didn’t say in therapy

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf

The Mountain Is You

The best books for escaping reality

Last and the fullest of categories.

I started reading because it allowed me to quickly escape from the problems of my reality and take refuge in a place that allowed me to experience other and new emotions.

And even now after years, this is the main reason why I read.

This list, which will probably grow more and more as the days go by, is filled with many categories of books.

It is very personal so they may not inspire you as well, but they appeal to me and I hope you enjoy them too.

The botany books are dedicated to my latest fixation, healing plants. (If you are interested I will do some articles on the subject).

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

The tell-tale heart and other writings by Edgar Allan Poe

Botanical Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland

Japanese Death Poems by Yoel Hoffmann

Sherlock holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan

Great Goddesses: Life Lessons From Myths and Monsters

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Neverwhere: A Novel by Neil Gaiman

Mexican gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

A Thousand Ships: A Novel by Natalie Haynes

The Thursday Murder Club: (The Thursday Murder Club 1) by Richard Osman

I admit that I am more inclined to read for fun than to learn.

In fact, when I ask myself the question ‘What should I read next’, my choice is often based on my craving of the moment and not on thought-out reasons.

But in the end it is good like that.

The best books I have read in my life are the ones I started ‘by luck’. Reading certainly does not have to become like schoolwork, otherwise it would be self-torture.

However, I advise you and myself to push ourselves out of fiction sometimes and that is exactly what I will try to do this year.

I wish you an enjoyable read, I hope you will like the books I have recommended for 2023, enjoy!!!
