Extraordinary places to go on adventures now Fantasy readers

O to sail in a ship,
To leave this steady unendurable land,
To leave the tiresome sameness of the streets,
the sidewalks and the houses,
To leave you, O you solid motionless land, and
entering a ship,
To sail and sail and sail!

Walt Whitman

Whenever I scroll through Tiktok and come across breathtaking landscapes, my mind immediately flies to the many literary realms set in places just like those. We certainly don’t live in Narnia or use magic wands, but there is no shortage of magic around us. There are wonderful landscapes in the world that are worth seeing before leaving this world.

It would be nice to visit it all but unfortunately three lifetimes would not be enough. You have to choose, so to help you out I have selected some fabulous places that you simply cannot miss.

Dolomites, Italy

The Dolomites, also known as the Dolomite Alps, are a series of mountains located in north-eastern Italy. They are composed of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. These mountain ranges take their name from dolomite, a rock they are composed of, consisting mainly of the mineral dolomite.

Their pale colour is because of this, making them so fascinating and mysterious, and giving rise to the spectacular phenomenon of alpenglow. The most popular phenomenon among their visitors, the mountains as the sun goes down turn from orange to purple and then to a blue so dark that it blurs into night.

The Dolomites are great for skiing, long walks surrounded by bright green in the winter months, and long parachute rides in the summer.

Lapland, Finland

Finland’s northernmost region is home to the famous light shows that attract thousands of tourists every year. Midnight sun, polar nights, blankets of snow, it’s all there.

I recommend reaching this wonderful place at Christmas time, so as not to miss the Santa Claus Village. The small village that turns into Father Christmas’s home every year will welcome you with decorated trees on every corner and don’t be surprised if a deer crosses your path!!!

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Japan

The forest populated by Moso Bamboo. There are many paths that tourists can take to visit this beautiful landscape. The sun in these places is very bright and it is a joy to watch it filter through the tall trees.

This forest is probably the most famous in the whole of Japan, so be mentally prepared to find the place very crowded.

Every year thousands of tourists are attracted by the photos they see on the internet and are never disappointed when they see it in person.

Indian River Lagoon, Florida

The beautiful effect that these waves create is given by micro-organisms that, when stimulated by any kind of movement, glow in the dark.

The definition of bioluminescence is ‘the production and emission of light by living organisms’. There are few places where it can be appreciated, three of which can be reached by boat from the coast of Puerto Rico.

This bay in Florida is the most luminescent in the world; the waves are at their best in the darkest hours, when the entire shoreline can be seen lit up in blue.

I hope you enjoyed the article, don’t miss these dreamy (or rather bookish) places.
